We believe there is only one way to heaven, and that is by faith in Christ Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross (John 20:31)
Evangelical – We believe and we proclaim the ageless Gospel of Jesus Christ, crucified and risen from the dead, and salvation offered freely to all people in His Name.

Church – We are the people of God gathered around God’s Word and Sacraments, growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hammond was founded in 1918, by the children of primarily German immigrants who wished to have a Lutheran congregation in which Evangelical Lutheran teaching and worship were conducted in the English language and would reach out in mission to the whole community. Today our members come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. The first house of worship was located on Waltham Avenue and Park Place, across from historic Harrison Park, near downtown Hammond. The present House of Worship was completed and dedicated in 1953, and is located on Hohman Avenue and 172nd Place.

What We Believe and Teach

† We believe that the Holy Scriptures are the divinely inspired Word of God, truthful and without error. In the Scripture, we have a faithful record of God’s revelation to man, and a flawless revelation of God’s Holy Law and God’s good news in the Gospel. (2Timothy 3:16)
† We confess the ancient creeds of the church, particularly the Apostolic and Nicene, thus uniting ourselves with all true believers in all generations. Our Christ-centered Liturgy is based in God’s Word and the historic liturgical practices of the church dating back to the time of the apostles, and having roots back into the Old Testament.
Picture7† We believe in the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which are central to our faith and worship. Baptism is offered to people of all ages. The Lord’s Supper is offered to those who have been baptized and instructed. Communion is celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month and offered at both services. (Mark 16:16; Matthew 28:18-20)
† We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Divine Savior and Lord of all. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.  Forgiveness of sin, peace and eternal life are given to us through Him alone in the proclaimed Gospel and with the visible elements in the holy Sacraments.  (1 Corinthians 11:24-26)
† We believe each of us are sinners.  It is by the Lord’s Grace alone that He saves us.  We are simply beggars with open hands and can do nothing to earn or merit God’s favor on our own.  (Romans 3:23; Isaiah 64:6; Ephesians 2:8)
† Our mission and purpose is to bring the good news of Jesus to all nations.  (Matthew 28:18-20)
